Through the OUTREACH Committee from FCC(DOC) Candler, our church family has become a community school/church partner with Hominey Valley Elementary School, located beside our church. In this school year 2009-10, backpacks were purchased for several students in grades 3-5 with school supplies and needs for individual students.
In January of this year, we officially became partners with the school and our first project with them was collecting items and making hygiene kits for the survivors of the Haiti earthquake. After our "Project Haiti" collection, the school completed 77 kits, as well as, collected MANY extra items. These will go to local agencies and charities. We appreciate ALL the students and staff from Hominey Valley did for this project. A special thank you to their guidance counselor and the students who packed the kits.
In the spring of this school year, our church family hopes to begin assisting through volunteering with students and staff as needed. We also plan to have an Appreciation time for the staff of the school before the end of this school year.
